This Hampshire Senior Cup tie was not as one sided as the final scoreline would suggest.Andover were much the better side for most of the first half but against the run of play two quick goals conceded just before half time began to swing the match Romsey’s way.

Andover Town 0–4 Downton

This match promised to provide the first points of the league season for Andover Town. After an exciting game last Monday, which could have gone either way, there were great hopes for the result this Saturday. Downton forced some individually inspired play by the Andover defenders and keeper, unfortunately none of the home sides attempts on goal were as successful.

This was a much improved performance from Andover Town and they were unlucky that their efforts were not enough to earn at least a point from this first local derby of the season. In the extreme heat of this August afternoon Andover Town found AFC Stoneham far too much to handle. There were some individual remarkable performances however the majority of the opponent’s goals were borne from specific errors and it appeared every mistake was going to be punished.
