Andover Town’s unbeaten record against New Milton was in serious jeopardy for much of this game but two second half strikes ensured it remains intact at least until the reverse fixture later in the season. With several players unavailable for various reasons Angel Call Handling Sponsored Andover handed Watt Jones his first start whilst two other new signings were on the bench.

The home side asked all the early questions as Dease Kerrison pushed a good early effort over the bar.However in the seventh minute a missed place pass let in Morgan Turner who went on to fire into the net past a stranded Kerrison. For a long period New Milton looked the most likely to score the games second goal but,at times somewhat desperately,Andover kept them out during this period Ben Cooper had New Milton’s best chance but the effort was well saved by Kerrison.New Milton played with a high line and consequently when Andover went onto the offensive they were all too often caught offside. With ten minutes of the half remaining Andover conceded a corner following a misunderstanding and from the resulting cross Cooper volleyed in the home sides second goal. The Andover response came two minutes later as Josh Hewson held off a couple of challenges before setting up Josh Bertie who converted the easiest of chances to bring Andover back into the game

If New Milton were the better side during the first period a revitalised Andover were much the better after the interval.However that was not before New Milton scored their third goal to reinstate their two goal advantage which one home supporter described as freakish. A long throw was help on by the wind and bounced awkwardly for the defenders allowing Tyrell Sampson to control the ball and score. As in the first half Andover were quick to reduce the arrears.Following the restart they won a corner which was handled on the line and Tom Patterson’s well struck penalty was far too good for the goalkeeper to save. As the match entered the final stages New Milton’s play looked a little ragged which in turn opened the game up for Andover and they deserved their third and final goal.Coming out of a defensive position Harry Barkaway threaded a beautiful pass into the path of Adam Patterson who in turn fed Josh Bertie who had time to pick his spot and allow the club to gain a very valuable point.
