Andover Town3–4○Romsey Town

Romsey Town maintained their recent winning streak over Andover Town by winning an enthralling game in the Sydenhams Wessex Division One. Played in front of another large crowd (158) at the Portway, Andover came into the game hoping to build on Saturday's victory against Totton & Eling whilst Romsey looked to bounce back from an opening day defeat.

After an encouraging start which saw Andover’s captain, Tom Pattison, drive through midfield on a number of occasions, Romsey took the lead on the 14th minute when Liam Magee notched the first of his three goals. The remainder of the half saw few clear cut opportunities for either side although Romsey edged the spoils.

The second half saw a much more open game. Andover equalised on the 53rd minute when Emans found George Higgins in space on the left edge of the box., he engineered room to get his shot away and fire in to the bottom left hand corner. No sooner had the Portway faithful sat back down when a rash challenge 25 yards out allowed Jeff Dunn to curl in and restored Romsey’s lead. Andover imploded further three minutes later when a poor clearance fell to Magee whose neat 1-2 created space in the box for him to slot past the advancing Tasker. With around twenty minutes left, Magee, scored his second and Romsey's third. Five minutes after their third, Romsey added a fourth, a mis-hit pass intercepted by Magee who made no mistake to complete his hat-trick. A despondent crowd were given a reason to cheer when Ben Emans capped an excellent move to make it 2-4 in the 86th minute before Ryan Morgan, pushing for a starting place, scored his first goal for Andover to make it 3-4. Unfortunately, moments later the referee blew his whistle with the crowd wondering what might have been had another few minutes been played.

Andover head in to Saturdays home game against Newport (IoW) hoping to bounce back and eradicate the individual errors that cost them dearly and get back to winning ways.
