It was a very warm day at the Portway and a well attended support of over 100. Despite the result this was a solid performance by Andover Town in the first of five pre season matches.With several players on holiday the Town’s starting line up contained six of last seasons squad augmented by five of the new signings and the manager will be pleased how well they gelled together.

Town started well against their Hellenic league opponents only to lose Shane Lock early on to injury but he returned after seven minutes with his head heavily bandaged and played out the game without any apparent discomfort. During a tightly contested fist half scoring chances were at a premium.The best came midway midway through the half when Mark Gosney put Zach Glasspool in but thegoalkeeper was quick off the line to smother the shot.

Highworth had a squad of nineteen and made multiple changes at the start of the second period allowing Andover to take the imitative. Gosney and Glasspool both went close before the Highworth Keeper made three fine saves after another Gosney effort took the paint off the crossbar. Highworth had the best of the final fifteen minutes and Kieran McHardy who had taken over the Goalkeepers jersey on the hour mark,kept them at bay with three saves that were even better than those at the opposite end a few minutes earlier.
