Andover Town5–1○Verwood Town

Bottom of the table Verwood Town were the visitors to the Portway on Saturday facing an Andover Town side hoping to bounce back from their last-minute defeat at Bournemouth in Midweek. The Andover team saw Liam Gilbert returning to the side after missing the mid-week match.

Verwood made the early running with 2 corners in quick succession but both were cleared by the home defence. An early chance for Andover saw a first time shot by Zach Glasspool from a cross from Rusher on the left saved by Bennet. A scare for the Home supporters when Lloyd Thomas was dispossessed in his penalty area but running backwards caught the ball when the Verwood striker tried to chip the ball over his head, A good powerful run by Liam Hibberd took him to outside the box where his well directed shot was saved again by Bennet. Reece Rusher also had a couple of shots that went wide. Andover were slowly beginning to dictate the game and the deadlock was broken in the 35th Minute when Zach Glasspool played a neat one two with Reece Rusher and then fired home to give Andover the lead with his tenth Goal of the season. The visitors responded and equalised when a free kick was only partially cleared and the ball fell to Liam Donachy who hooked the ball home. However a few minutes later Andover Town restored their lead when Shane Lock was put through and his shot went across Bennet into the far corner.

Andover went into the half-time interval deservedly leading 2-1.

As the second half got under way, Andover almost increased their lead when a corner found Liam Gilbert whose Header was headed off the line and over for another corner which was cleared. Andover then increased their lead when Reece Rusher cut the ball back to Victor Guiterrez to slam home his first goal for the club. Minutes later in a rare Verwood attack a shot from the left was going just under the crossbar but Lloyd Thomas made a good save to push the ball onto the crossbar and over for a corner. This warning spurred Andover and Liam Gilbert made the game safe when his shot from outside the box flew past Bennet into the back of the net. Minutes later, Reece Rusher who was a constant threat to Verwood all afternoon, cut in from the right hand side and his curling shot was narrowly wide. With minutes left to the end of the game Sam Pekun on his 50th appearance for the club scored the fifth goal which he celebrated in his customary acrobatic style (pictured).

The Game ended 5-1 to Andover, which was their highest win of the season and moved them into tenth Place.
