Andover Town3–3○Amesbury Town

Andover Town looking to improve on their home performances, with only two league wins so far this season, they came into this match against local rivals Amesbury Town hoping for the three points but a last minute equaliser denied that result.

As the game kicked off an early chance fell for Andover, which saw a Dylan Knight shot just clearing the crossbar from a corner. Amesbury responded and had a chance to go ahead when David Parry was running on to a through ball into the home penalty area when Lloyd Thomas came out to gather the ball and Parry went down but to the relief of the home supporters the Amesbury striker was booked for diving instead of a penalty being awarded. However, shortly after, Amesbury did have the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed for offside. With just under a quarter of an hour gone across from the right which Thomas failed to collect gave Kieran Stephens the opportunity to sidefoot the ball into an empty net to give the visitors the lead. Minutes later Amesbury doubled their lead when a corner from the left found Skipper Craig Wheeler on the far post who headed home. With halftime looming, Dylan Knight was put through with a one on one with the keeper Creese but his shot was turned away for a corner. This was followed by an Amesbury free kick which was pushed around the post by Thomas diving low down to his right and then from another Amesbury free kick a header flashed just past the post. Keeper Thomas then made a smart save from a shot from ex Andover Town Player ‘Gunner’ Yates. In the first minute of injury time Dylan Knight curled a shot from fully 35 yards out which sailed over Creese’s head into the net. Then in the fifth minute of injury time a free kick for Andover on the right-hand side of the penalty area was curled into the net by Javier Santafe-Vivo to bring Town Level. The teams went into the break all square at 2-2.

The second half got underway and In the 56th minute Shane Lock with a superb shot across keeper Creese into the bottom corner gave Andover the lead. Then Lloyd Thomas made a point blank save to deny Amesbury an equalizer. McAulie Stubbs had a speculative shot at goal from inside his own half but it went wide. Amesbury Town were pressing hard for the equalizer and a cross from the left was headed wide by Parry then Thomas saved well with his legs to deny Amesbury the equaliser. However, Andover’s hopes for three points faded when in injury time Ali Brown fired home the equalizer to give the visitors a share of the spoils. So, at the final whistle Andover had to settle for a point after having a dramatic comeback from being 2-0 down.
