Andover Town’s league cup campaign ended following a penalty shoot out, after losing their goalkeeper with just fifteen minutes played. On a night when it rained throughout the overall performance was encouraging and if extra time rather then penalties were an option they might well have pulled off a victory. Lloyd Thomas was cup tied so Jarid Hixon returned behind a revised formation that played three at the back.

After an early foray by Andover, Baffin went ahead on the ten minute mark when their captain Tyler Morey bundled the ball over the line from close range. Hixon took a knock in the build up but resumed after treatment.However just five minutes later Hixon was involved in a collision with Jamie White and following a six minute delay was stretchered off.Without a recognised keeper amongst the substitutes McCaulie Stubbs came off the bench to don the Keepers jersey. The Andover response to this delay was positive and soon after Chris Onoufriou fired in the equaliser from the edge of the area. Play continued end to end before Ryan Dennery restored the home sides advantage with a volley that Stubbs could do little about.

The light rain that had fallen throughout the first half became more intense as the match resumed after the break. Early on Stubbs saved well to prevent a third goal for Baffin’s before Lerone Plummer latched on to to a through ball to score the team’s well deserved second equaliser. During the final Twenty minutes Town were much the better side but it was Baffin who should have wrapped it up but a well struck free kick from thirty yards struck the Andover crossbar. During the shootout Stubbs had little chance with the seven penalties that went past him but still managed to save two others. During open play he did all that would have been expected of him and he was was protected by his defence.
