○Bournemouth Poppies1–3Andover Town

Andover Town got off to a winning start under new manager Glenn Burnett, as they put in a dominant display against Bournemouth Poppies in the Hampshire Senior Cup. Goals for Rudi Plummer and Shane Lock gave Andover a convincing 3-1 victory as they progress into the second round of the competition. Burnett and incoming assistant manager Zach Glasspool named a very changed team to the one that lost to Farnborough in the FA Cup on Saturday. Jamie Bray started in place of Craig Atkinson, who picked up a knock in the 5-0 loss, with JJ Tucker and Rudi Plummer replacing Ryan Inskip and Craig Stanley who were also injured. Lawrence Larbi, Liam Gilbert and Ross Gregory also returned to the starting line-up. Bournemouth looked to build on a 3-1 win against Team Solent at the weekend, as they named a side looking to challenge Andover. Dan Molyneaux, Ali Fakhal and Robbie O’Brien all started for the Poppies. Andover took the lead within a minute of the Kick off, as they started to put pressure on the Bournemouth defence. Rudi Plummer stormed down the right wing, and his shot just inside the penalty area was fired in at the near post to put Town in front. It wasn’t too long before Andover doubled their lead midway through the first half. After Liam Gilbert’s corner found Ross Gregory, whose header appeared to have hit the back of the net, Rudi Plummer was awarded the goal to add to his collection, after a scramble in the goalmouth lead to the ball being tapped in from close range. Going into the half time break, Andover looked to be controlling play well, and this looked to continue as Andover had the first chances of the second period. Lawrence Larbi almost scored from close range after a brilliant counter attacking move lead to Larby’s low shot being stopped by the feet of Bournemouth keeper Kenny Vaughn. However, it was Bournemouth who narrowed the deficit with 20 minutes to go. A great cross from Robbie O’Brien after a free kick at the edge of the box fell to Ali Fakhal, whose brilliant leap and bullet header sent the ball flying into the opposite corner to give Bournemouth’s attack a new lease of life. Shane Lock put the game to bed with 5 minutes to go by putting Town 2 goals ahead once again. Having stolen the ball off the Poppies defence from 30 yards out, he ran in between the centre backs and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom of the net to put Andover through to the second round. Andover are due to face Cowes Sport in the next round of the cup, but first are due to face Blackfield and Langley in the Wessex Premier League on the 10th September, as they try to build on their 19th place start to the season against the league leaders, having taken only 4 points from 6 games.
