Verwood Town 2–0 Andover Town

Andover Town lost 2-0 to Bottom club Verwood Town who recorded only their second league win of the season, at a very wet Potterne Park on Saturday 19TH November. ­­­

Before the kick off there was a minute’s silence for Andy Dine who sadly passed away this week. Andy was involved in the Wessex league for many years as an Assistant Referee and Referee.

Although Andover town had much of the possession in the first half, played mainly in pouring rain they could not find a way past a resolute Potters defence, who blocked several shots by the away side. Adam Grange was always a threat down the left hand side going past defenders and either crossing into the box or cutting inside for a shot on goal. Just before halftime an Adam Grange’s shot was beaten away by the Home keeper.

At the start of the second half Mcaulie Stubbs Replaced Ross Gregory who picked up an injury in the first half. Verwood came more into the game in the second half and took the lead in the 54th Minute when Harvey Elson fired home. A free taken by Gilbert found Connor Cocklin at the far post whose header across goal did not fall to an Andover player and the ball was cleared. Grange then fired a shot just wide. Verwood almost doubled their lead with a Free kick that Thomas pushed onto the junction of the crossbar and post. Verwood increased their lead in the 82nd minute when Christer Warren swept the ball into the net after good work by Bergin. In the dying minutes an Andover corner was partially cleared and a shot that went through a crowd of players was punched away by Gerrard Benfield. The Game finished 2-0 to the Potters giving them a welcome 3 points after losing each of their last 3 league games 4-0 but Andover’s losing streak continues and it is now 6 games since they last won.
