Lymington Town 0–2 Andover Town

The road to Wembley for Andover Town began with a visit to Fawcetts field home of New Milton Town to play Lymington Town in the Extra preliminary round of the FA Cup. Lyminton Town’s ground was unavailable due to a cricket match being played there. Andover Town were unchanged from the team that started against Bemerton Heath Harlequins last Tuesday night.

An even start to the game but as the match wore on Andover slowly took a grip of the match. Mike Gosney had an early chance but his shot was pushed away by Ross Casey. A shot from Shane Lock across the keeper just went past the post. The deadlock was broken in the 38 min when after forcing three corners in quick succession the third comer from the left found Luke Dempsey who headed across the goal for Adam Pearson to head powerfully home. Just before halftime Zach Glasspool was through on goal but Ross Casey rushed out of his goal to block the shot. Lymington could not find a way past a resolute Andover defence and were restricted to two attempts on goal which were easily saved by Lloyd Thomas

Andover went into the half time break deservedly 1-0 ahead.

Early in the second half Lyminton forced their only corner of the game but this was headed over by Sam House. Andover extended their lead in the 57 min when a shot from Reece Rusher beat Ross Casey and was heading goalward when Zach Glasspool applied the final touch, despite protests from Lymington Town that it was offside the goal Stood. Glasspool had a chance to extend the lead when he was put through but his chip was held by Casey. Mike Gosney had a shot that was well saved by Lymington keeper Casey (who was probably Lymington’s Man of the Match). At the final whistle Andover Town progressed to the Preliminary round with a good solid all-round team performance. The reward was a home tie against Wimborne Town on the 19th August k.o 3pm.
