Andover Town 3–1 Fawley AFC

Andover Town extended their current unbeaten home record to five games with all their goals coming during a twenty minute first half spell against league strugglers Fawley. With both their recognised goalkeepers suspended Mcaulie Stubbs normally a defender was asked to wear the keepers jersey.He did well in the unaccustomed role but will quickly want to forget his part in the build up to Fawley’s goal. Supporters favourite Sammy Pekun returned to the club and went straight into the starting line up whilst another new signing Victor Gutierrex was included amongst the substitutes.

The match got under way with light but persistent rain falling and during the opening stages both sides were evenly matched but Andover slowly began to take control and the deadlock was broken after twenty minutes. A free kick taken by Liam Gilbert was swung into the Fawley area but was not dealt with by their defenders and Zach Glasspool smashed home the rebound. Shortly after this time another free kick flew across the area and an unmarked Ross Gregory at the far post netted from close range. Five minutes later Adam Grange was upended in the box. Zach Glasspool, who missed a spot kick in the reverse fixture,made no mistake this time sending the Fawley keeper Lee Burch the wrong way. Shortly before the interval Stubbs miskicked a clearance and Dylan Gain took full advantage to score from six yards.

By comparison the second half was a very mundane affair. Fawley never seriously put Stubbs, who was well protected by his defenders, under pressure and on the rare occasions they had sight of the goal their finishing was wayward. At the other end Glasspool saw a great effort tipped over the bar and was then unlucky when his long range effort went just inches wide of the post. Another positive performance by the Town. More of the same from the three consecutive home fixtures that are on the horizon could see them establish a position in the top ten as the league enters the final two months of the season.
