Andover Town 1–1 Harvest

Portsmouth based Harvest were another newcomer to Portway this season with Town looking to extend their 8 match winning run. Kick-off saw bright autumn sunshine and again the pitch and playing surface looked immaculate.

Both teams started brightly and as early as the 5th minute Malachi Johnson

fashioned an early chance when he broke through in the area but shot weakly and the Harvest keeper saved easily. Play flowed attractively from end to end and Harvest did not look like a team in the lower reaches of the league. Ryan Morgans almost snatched the lead in the 15th minute with a fierce cross shot from the right which was palmed away by the away keeper. As the half progressed this was certainly not going to be a stroll in the park for Town because Harvest pushed forward with conviction and were the better side by the half hour. No real surprise that they took the lead in the 40th minute when they scored after an almighty penalty area scramble. The only black mark on the visitors first half performance came from the constant obscenities from their manager on the touchline who undoubtedly should have been sent off.

The second half started with again Harvest playing well and somehow Town would have to up the ante to turn this score around. They managed to do that in the 70th minute when a great turn and shot from Ryan Morgans arrowed into the net from the left edge of the area. Andover then began to exert control for the last quarter and a winner looked likely. Harvest though defended stoutly and closed the game out to make the final score 1-1.

So Town's first draw of the season and to be honest Harvest certainly upset the form book with a good all round performance. The score was certainly a fair result and both teams could well have won this game. The next match is on Tuesday October 29th with an eagerly awaited away clash with local rivals Andover New Street who have started their season very well and are now 4th in the Wessex Premier League. This is the quarter final North Hants Senior Cup match kick off 7.45pm.
